What is Brandy?
Brandy originated in France circa 1313 and was used for medical purposes; accidentally discovering distilled spirits centuries ago, winemakers were trying to make their wine more compact for storing and shipping to remove with less water and travel with more wine. While doing so, they realized spirits had acquired more complex flavors than their usual wine, which made them start selling it as Brandy, or nowadays, some people also know it as brandy liquor.
Brandy ages in wooden oak barrels for at least two years and naturally gains caramel coloring. Many distillers use wooden casks, which are already utilized barrels, to age other liquor and spirits and introduce more complex flavors. At the same time, some Fruit Brandy, also known as Rakija or Slivovitz, is unaged.
How is Brandy made?
Essentially, Brandy, a type of liquor, is created by fermenting fruit and grapes into wine or usually distilling using white wine; Brandy's alcohol content is generally between 35-60 (70-120 proof). It is a type of alcohol also known as brandewijn, a kind of spirit traditionally made from the distillation of wine and grapes or a fermented fruit mash, stored in wooden oaks for coloration or flavors, sometimes for imitation of the effect of aging. Brandy is colored with caramel coloring. In the winemaking world, various grape and Flavored brands are still undiscovered.
Generally made in copper containers, Pot Still Brandy is distilled in different ways, like Column Still or continuous distillation, depending on the brandy-making style. Aging brandies acquire colors like golden or brown or remain colorless white. Still, some people mix it up with Cognac.
Is Cognac and Brandy the same?
It's Cognac vs. Brandy. Brandy can be produced anywhere worldwide, but not in Cognac, if not in the Cognac region of France. Like Champagne and Sparkling Wine, both are the same and considered different, as champagne comes from the Champagne region of France. Not all Brandy is Cognac, but all the cognacs are Brandy or French.

Finding these indicated on the labels is a traditional system for age grading of Brandy,
V.S. "Very special"' or three stars indicates that a blend in which the youngest Brandy has a maximum aging of at least two years in a cask
V.S.O.P. "very superior old pale" Reserve or five stars indicates a blend of the youngest Brandy aging for at least four years in a cask.
XO "extra old" or the Napoleon indicates a blend of the youngest Brandy aging for at least six years.
