Chateau d'Orsan Cotes du Rhone Villages originates from a historic 13th-century castle in the village of Orsan within the commune of Laudun, where winemaker Celine Verdier Rieu continues her family tradition. The wines are matured in the castle's underground cellar, which has been preserved for centuries. At the same time, the hillside vineyards are planted in stony, clay-limestone soils. Benefiting from sunny terraces, Mediterranean climate, and the protective Mistral wind, the vineyards yield grapes of great concentration and balance. Produced from 40% Syrah, 40% Grenache, and 20% Carignan, the grapes are handpicked and carefully sorted, then undergo whole cluster fermentation for 10 to 15 days using indigenous yeasts. Half of the blend is aged in barrels, adding depth and structure. Bottled at 14% alcohol by volume (ABV), this red wine reflects both power and elegance from its terroir.
The wine showcases the estate's heritage and winemaking expertise, producing a wine that has garnered attention for its complexity and layered profile. Its style demonstrates why the Laudun area is progressing toward Cru status within the Cotes du Rhone Villages appellation. It pairs well with hearty Mediterranean dishes like lamb shoulder with thyme.
