Deadhead 6 Year Old Rum

Deadhead 6 Year Old Rum is from the Chiapas region of Mexico and is encased in a unique bottle inspired by a shrunken head, a tsantsa. This six year old rum offers a distinctive presentation and reflects a tradition where tsantsas were created as trophies by certain Amazonian tribes. The rum is aged for six years and has a 40% alcohol by volume (ABV). Many believe these artifacts were kept as trophies for honor and spiritual renewal. While Deadhead’s vessels don’t contain souls, they contain extraordinary spirits. This spirit is distilled using single column and pot still methods, with ingredients comprising molasses from the column still and cane juice from the pot still. It matures for 5 to 7 years in a combination of 80% American oak and 20% Chiapas oak wood. The water source is a natural spring that has been treated and softened (demineralized), and the spirit undergoes charcoal filtration before resting and maturation, as well as filter press filtration before bottling. Notably, it has received several awards, including a Silver Medal for Taste at the 2018 Tastings Spirits Competition, two Gold Medals for Taste at the 2017 Craft Awards International Competition and the 2015 Spirits International Prestige Awards, and a Platinum Medal for Bottle Design at the 2015 Spirits International Prestige Awards.
