Del Maguey Tobala Mezcal

Del Maguey Tobala Mezcal is a limited and cult-favorite edition produced by Rogelio Martinez Cruz in the high-altitude pueblo of Santa Maria Albarradas, Oaxaca. The rare tobala agave grows naturally only in the highest canyons, shaded by oak trees, much like truffles, and its small size means it takes about eight pinas to equal one from the more common cultivated magueys. Introduced to the United States in 1997 as the first wild varietal mezcal available, this edition has become one of the most celebrated in the Del Maguey Single Village collection. Rogelio’s traditional production includes a rare 30-day long roast, imparting remarkable depth and character.

With 45% alcohol by volume (ABV), 90 proof, it is intended for responsible enjoyment. As with all Del Maguey mezcals, Tobala is crafted to be sipped slowly and savored rather than taken as a shot. On the nose, it opens with sweet fruit and delicate florals, followed by notes of mango, cinnamon, and a hint of parmesan rind. The palate boasts its signature creaminess, complemented by a long, mineral-driven finish that reflects the mountainous terroir of its origin.
