Del Maguey Wild Papalome Mezcal is a distinctive edition crafted by palenquero Fernando Caballero Cruz in the remote Mixteca Alta region of Oaxaca. Named from the Nahuatl word for butterfly, Papalometl resembles a giant Tobala and has long been the maguey of choice in this rugged region. The journey to Teozacoalco, where this mezcal is made, is nearly five hours across rocky dirt roads, underscoring its rarity and artisanal roots. Distilled in a stainless steel pot with a clay condenser and carrizo bamboo tubing, this mezcal captures the authentic traditional methods of the village of San Pedro, resulting in a spirit that is earthy, dark, and delicious.

On the nose, Del Maguey Wild Papalome offers the rich aroma of leather, evoking the depth of aged materials. The palate brings flavors of leather, slate, black olive, and a savory meatiness, balanced by a medium-long finish that starts with slightly sweet dried black cherries before evolving into earthy, savory mushroom notes.
