Fossetta Montepulciano d'Abruzzo is produced in the Abruzzo D.O.C. of central Italy, where vineyards in the Pescara and Chieti provinces lie on hillside slopes 300–400 meters above sea level. Despite its southern position, the region experiences cold winters with rainfall and hot summers, characterized by wide day-to-night temperature variations, which help develop the classic spicy and cherry fruit character of Montepulciano.
Grapes are hand-picked in late September and early October, with pickers revisiting vineyards to select only the ripest bunches. After destemming and gentle crushing, fermentation with frequent remontage lasts for 10 days, followed by racking and aging. The wine is aged for 12 months, with 30% of the blend aged in oak barriques and 70% in stainless steel, resulting in a balance of depth and freshness. With 13.5% alcohol by volume (ABV), it pairs well with meaty pasta sauces and grilled red meats, showcasing its versatility at the table.
Palate: Rich layers of Damson and Morello cherry flavors.
Finish: Long and elegant.
