Tenuta Il Poggione is one of the historic and most respected estates in the Montalcino DOCG. The property spans 1,480 acres, with 309 acres planted to Sangiovese vines. The Riserva Vigna Paganelli is produced only in the best vintages and exclusively from the estate's oldest vineyard, planted in 1964.
Grapes are hand‑harvested, followed by a 20‑day submerged‑cap fermentation with indigenous yeasts at controlled temperatures. The wine undergoes malolactic fermentation in stainless steel before long aging in large French oak casks, followed by extended bottle refinement.
Awarded 98 points by Vinous Media and 96 points by Wine Spectator (Top 100 #52), the 2019 Brunello di Montalcino Riserva Vigna Paganelli is a deeply expressive and impeccably structured wine. Brooding and balsamic in profile, it opens with a contemplative bouquet of exotic spices, flint, incense, dried roses, black cherries, and subtle ashen minerality. On the palate, it is rich and full‑bodied yet refined, offering silken textures and layers of mineral‑driven red berry fruit lifted by vibrant acidity. Hints of sour citrus add tension, while evolving notes of black cherries, herbs, tobacco, and warm spices emerge with air. The finish is long, mouthwatering, and pleasantly chewy, leaving fine tannins and lingering accents of orange zest and cloves. A powerful, elegant Brunello with the depth to age gracefully for many years.
