Saddlehill Cabernet Franc

Saddlehill Cabernet Franc is a bold and expressive red wine crafted by Saddlehill Winery & Vineyards in New Jersey, USA. This estate-grown wine boasts a harmonious blend of vibrant fruit, structured tannins, and herbal complexity, showcasing the unique varietal character of the Camden County region. With an alcohol by volume (ABV) of 13.6%, this wine strikes a balance between a classic expression and a contemporary style.

Hand-harvested over a month-long window on Saddlehill's estate between October and November, the grapes benefited from New Jersey's ideal climate. The region's consistent dryness and moderate temperature swings produced fully ripened fruit with balanced sugars and acidity, forming the foundation of this refined Cabernet Franc.

The wine matured for 12 months in oak barrels, with 85 percent of the barrels crafted from French oak and 42 percent of the barrels new. This thoughtful aging process imparts depth, structure, and subtle spice, allowing the varietal character to remain the focus with finesse.

It opens with aromas of green peppers, violets, and herbal tea. Bright notes of red and black fruit, backed by young tannins and refreshing acidity, follow the palate. In keeping with the varietal nature, the tasting experience ended with a minty, somewhat eucalyptus finish. 

Only 151 cases of this limited-edition wine were produced, demonstrating Saddlehill's meticulous attention to detail. This Cabernet Franc offers a youthful yet balanced profile, ready for immediate enjoyment or short-term cellaring.

Serve slightly chilled, at around 16 to 18 degrees Celsius (60 to 65 degrees Fahrenheit), to enhance its fruit and aromatic variation. Its vibrant acidity and medium-body structure pair naturally with hard cheeses such as Manchego, charcuterie like prosciutto, zucchini chips, or sauteed mushroom burgers. It also complements grilled vegetables, roasted poultry, and tomato-based dishes, enhancing their freshness and herbal character. Enjoy!
