    Product Description

Saddlehill Syrah is an expressive red wine crafted from estate-grown grapes by Saddlehill Winery & Vineyards in New Jersey, United States. A prime example of cool-climate Syrah/Shiraz, this wine showcases the winery's dedication to meticulous vineyard practices and careful oak aging. It is bottled at 14.2% alcohol by volume (ABV), striking a harmonious balance between bold fruit character, spice, and elegant structure.

Harvested during Saddlehill's second vintage, the growing season presented both challenges and triumphs. A favorable winter resulted in early flowering and bud break, raising the possibility of an early harvest. However, despite abundant rainfall, the vines showed resilience, producing fruit of exceptional quality and balance. The result is a Syrah that captures freshness, vibrancy, and complexity.

The wine spent 13 months aging in oak barrels, with 75% crafted from French oak and 25% being new, adding layers of spice and structure without overshadowing the varietal fruit. This limited-production wine was released in nearly 500 cases, reflecting Saddlehill's commitment to small-batch excellence.

The wine opens with vibrant red fruits, including plums and black cherries, followed by delicate notes of orange zest, black pepper, and cranberries, all of which are balanced by soft tannins. The aftertaste has a tangy cherry spice flavor. Bright and fruity yet dry, this wine offers a versatile drinking experience.

Serve at a slightly cooler temperature, around 15.6 to 17.8 degrees Celsius (60 to 64 degrees Fahrenheit), to highlight its bright fruit and spice layers. Saddlehill Syrah pairs effortlessly with grilled or roasted meats such as ribeye steak, smoked brisket, or rosemary-seasoned lamb chops, where its dark fruit notes complement the richness of the proteins. It also pairs well with aged cheeses, such as Gouda, smoked cheddar, or blue cheese, as well as charcuterie selections like chorizo or salami.

Vegetarian pairings shine alongside this Syrah's earthy profile. Try it with roasted eggplant parmesan, wild mushroom ragu, or a spiced lentil stew. For dessert, the wine's fruit-forward character complements dark chocolate lava cake, blackberry cobbler, or a spiced fig tart, enhancing the sweet-spicy interplay on the palate. Enjoy!
