Smoked by Dona Paula Malbec is a red wine from Mendoza, Argentina, with an alcohol by volume (ABV) of 14.5%. This Argentine red blend is aged in artisanal smoked barrels, inspired by Argentina's grilling tradition. The barrels are customized and smoked using a unique process that imparts aromas reminiscent of a traditional Argentinean barbecue (asado). The wine is crafted from 100% estate-grown grapes, ensuring consistent quality and high-altitude character.
Dona Paula, established in 1997, owns all the vineyards used in its wine production, which are planted in the best areas of the country to express each terroir faithfully. This blend originates from the Ugarteche vineyards in Lujan de Cuyo, situated at 1,050 meters above sea level, characterized by warm days and cool nights. Sustainable agriculture practices are used throughout the vineyard. Grapes are harvested manually from late March to early April. Crushing is reductive to avoid oxygen contact, followed by cold pre-fermentation maceration to preserve primary aromas. Fermentation occurs at low temperatures, and spontaneous malolactic fermentation is carried out.
The wine is stored in French oak barrels of varying ages, from first to third use, for 12 months, with the smoked barrels contributing to its distinctive character. The result is an intensely violet-colored wine with very complex aromas and a palate that stands out for its sweet, velvety tannins. It is gluten-free, vegan, and sustainably produced.
