Smoking Loon Syrah

Smoking Loon Syrah is a red wine from the Central Valley, Chile. Introduced under the Smoking Loon label established in 2001, the wine reflects the brand's lighthearted approach to wine enjoyment, inspired by Don Sebastiani's appreciation for cigars and his father August's passion for waterfowl. The brand was built on the idea that good wine should be approachable and enjoyable without unnecessary seriousness. Each type allows the winemaking team to explore fruit from notable wine regions such as Chile, California, and South Africa, carefully guiding it to express balance, flavor, and value while maintaining a relaxed, adventurous spirit toward wine.

Smoking Loon Chilean Syrah is aged for 10 months in a combination of French, American, and Hungarian oak, allowing the wine to develop a layered character while maintaining a fruit-forward style. The wine opens with inviting aromas of tart cherry and blackberry with subtle hints of molasses, followed by notes of sandalwood, red currant, and fresh cherry. On the palate, dark fruit flavors of cranberry and tart strawberry unfold alongside gentle spice tones of white pepper and cinnamon. Earthy nuances of mushroom and herbes de Provence add depth, while a delicate touch of vanilla lingers from oak aging.

With 13.5% alcohol by volume (ABV) and 27 proof, this medium to full-bodied Syrah pairs well with hearty dishes such as grilled ribeye steak, bratwurst, or mildly spicy chili Colorado, making it a versatile choice for casual dinners, gatherings, or those who enjoy bold red wines with layered fruit and spice character.
