The Calling Sonoma Coast Chardonnay is a white wine from the Sonoma Coast appellation of California, bottled at 14.5% alcohol by volume (ABV). Sourced from multiple vineyard sites along the misty and cool Sonoma Coast, this Chardonnay reflects the distinctive coastal character of its appellation, where cool marine influences and coastal fog shape the grape's natural acidity and fruit profile. It is gluten-free.
Grapes were hand-sorted and 100% whole-cluster pressed, a production approach that preserves the fruit's delicacy and freshness from harvest. The wine underwent two-thirds malolactic fermentation, which introduces a hint of creaminess that balances the bracing natural acidity without fully softening the wine's coastal edge. It was then aged sur lie for 8 months in a combination of stainless steel tanks and both neutral and new French oak, with the final blend drawing equally from stainless steel and French oak at 12 percent new oak. This split aging approach allows the wine to retain its crisp, fresh character while gaining a subtle layer of texture and depth from the oak component. This wine introduced several new vineyard sources, resulting in a slightly fuller-bodied expression.
The Calling Sonoma Coast Chardonnay is best served chilled and pairs well with fresh oysters, grilled seafood, light pasta dishes with cream-based sauces, soft cheeses, and dishes where citrus and mineral-driven whites are a natural complement. It is equally suited for warm spring and summer evenings, outdoor dining occasions, and as a thoughtful gift for Chardonnay enthusiasts who appreciate a coastal, terroir-driven expression over a heavily oaked style.
